Follow the steps below to make sure you're ready for your Fingerprinting Appointment is successful.  

Steps to Prepare for a Fingerprinting Appointment

Preparing ahead of time helps ensure your fingerprinting appointment is fast, accurate, and successful.

1. Bring a Valid Photo ID

Please bring a government-issued photo ID. Your identity must be verified before fingerprinting begins.

  • Driver’s license

  • State ID

  • Passport

  • Military ID

 

2. Confirm Fingerprinting Type

Know whether your appointment is for:

  • Ink fingerprint cards

  • Employer, licensing, background check, or court-related fingerprint

Bring any forms, codes, or instructions provided by the requesting agency.

3. Clean and Dry Your Hands

Before your appointment:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water

  • Dry them thoroughly

  • Avoid lotions, oils, or hand sanitizer immediately before fingerprinting

Clean, dry hands produce clearer prints.

4. Address Skin Issues in Advance

If you have:

  • Cuts, cracks, or bandages on your fingers

  • Extremely dry or peeling skin

Please inform the technician at the start of the appointment.


5. Arrive On Time

Arrive at your scheduled time or be available when a mobile technician arrives. Late arrivals may delay processing or require rescheduling.

 

6. Clear the Signing Area (If Meeting at Your Home)

If your appointment is at your home, please:

  • Clear off the kitchen or dining table

  • Provide a flat, well-lit surface

  • Minimize distractions (TV, pets, background noise)

This allows for accurate, efficient fingerprinting.

 

7. Remove Hand Accessories

Before fingerprinting:

  • Remove rings, watches, and bracelets

  • Roll up sleeves if necessary

This allows full access to your fingers.

 

8. Follow Technician Instructions

During the fingerprinting process:

  • Relax your hands

  • Follow positioning instructions

  • Avoid pressing or rolling fingers unless instructed

Proper technique ensures high-quality prints.

 

9. Verify Your Information

Review your personal information on any forms or electronic systems for accuracy before submission.

 

10. Be Prepared for Payment

Have payment ready unless prior arrangements were made.

11. Allow Enough Time

Most fingerprinting appointments take 10–20 minutes, depending on the method and requirements.

12. After Fingerprinting

Once complete:

  • Confirm submission or card handling instructions

  • Keep any receipts or tracking numbers provided

You may resume normal activities immediately.
