Pre-Test Instructions for Drug Testing
Preparing for a drug test is simple when you know what to expect. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth, professional, and compliant testing process.
1. Bring a Valid Photo ID
You will need a government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID). This is required to verify your identity before testing begins.
2. Arrive on Time
Arrive at your scheduled testing time or be available when a mobile collector arrives. Late arrivals may delay results or require rescheduling.
3. Stay Hydrated — Don’t Overdo It
Drink a normal amount of water before your test. Avoid excessive fluid intake, which may result in a dilute sample and require a retest.
4. Disclose Prescription Medications
If you are taking prescribed medications, bring documentation or be prepared to provide details if requested by the Medical Review Officer (MRO). Do not stop taking prescribed medication unless directed by your doctor.
5. Follow Collector Instructions
During the collection:
-
Wash hands when instructed
-
Do not flush or wash hands again unless allowed
-
Follow all collection procedures exactly
-
These steps protect the integrity of the test.
6. Avoid Prohibited Items
Do not bring:
-
Bags or bulky outerwear (unless permitted)
-
Personal containers
-
Any outside liquids or substances
-
All collections follow strict chain-of-custody protocols.
7. Ask Questions If Unsure
If you’re unsure about any part of the process, ask the collector before the test begins. Collectors can explain procedures, but not the results or outcomes.
8. Complete the Process
Once your sample is collected:
-
Review and sign the custody form if required
-
Confirm contact information
-
Results will be sent directly to the employer or designated party
9. Resume Normal Activities
After the test is complete, you may return to work or normal activities unless otherwise instructed by your employer.
